Parts Procurement Is No Longer Just About Finding Parts

For years, the primary challenge in parts procurement was finding the right part at the right price.

That challenge still exists, but the process surrounding it has changed significantly.

Today’s parts procurement workflow often involves multiple systems, manual follow-ups, vendor management, carrier parts policies, delivery tracking, returns processing, RO allocation and increasing expectations around speed and accuracy. Most shops have learned how to work through these challenges, but few would argue the process has become simpler.

In many cases, the issue is not sourcing a part. The issue is managing everything that happens before and after the sourcing decision is made.

As vehicle technology continues to advance and repair planning becomes more detailed, the administrative side of parts procurement continues to grow. More information is available. More decisions are being made. More steps must be coordinated successfully.

Parts procurement has changed significantly over the last decade. In many cases, the tools supporting those workflows have not.

One of the reasons Orderly™ by PartsTrader was developed was to help bring greater structure, consistency, and visibility to the workflow surrounding procurement. By streamlining key processes and supporting more informed decision-making, Orderly™ helps teams work more efficiently while maintaining focus on accuracy throughout the parts procurement journey.

The goal is to simplify the procurement process through greater intelligence, improved accuracy, and more consistent workflows that help teams make confident decisions more efficiently.

As an industry, we often focus on individual transactions. Increasingly, success depends on how effectively we manage the entire workflow around those transactions.

That is where many of the next opportunities for improvement may be found.
